DRAMATIC PATTERN SHIFT EXPECTED ACROSS SOUTHCENTRAL LATE THIS WEEK THROUGH THE WEEKEND IN ALASKA

PERSISTENT ABOVE AVERAGE TEMPERATURES WITH LOCALIZED AREAS OF DRIZZLE
AND FOG WILL COME TO AN END BY WEDNESDAY AS MUCH COLDER AND DRIER AIR
PUSHES INTO SOUTHCENTRAL. TEMPERATURES WILL DROP WEDNESDAY THROUGH
FRIDAY... FALLING BACK TO NEAR NORMAL VALUES REGION WIDE. COINCIDENT
WITH THE TEMPERATURE DROP WILL BE A HARD REFREEZE OF PREVIOUSLY WET
SURFACES... WHICH MAY POSE TRAVEL HAZARDS.

BEGINNING LATE THURSDAY... A NORTH PACIFIC LOW WILL MOVE INTO THE
GULF... SPREADING SNOW INTO THE COASTAL REGIONS... WHICH MAY MIX WITH
OR TURN TO RAIN FRIDAY WITH A MORE SUBSTANTIAL SURGE OF WARMTH AND
PRECIPITATION. ACROSS INLAND AREAS... THERE IS MUCH GREATER
UNCERTAINTY AS TO WHETHER THERE WILL BE SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL OR NOT.
THIS IS MOSTLY DUE TO THE POTENTIAL IMPACT DOWN SLOPING WINDS MAY HAVE
ON THE SNOWFALL. WHILE THERE IS A CHANCE FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL IN
AREAS OF SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA... IT IS TOO EARLY TO SEE DETAILS AS TO
HOW THIS SYSTEM WILL IMPACT THE REGION. MORE DETAILS SHOULD EMERGE
OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS AS THE STORM DEVELOPS.
